LINK Ghana started working in Northern Region of Ghana in January 2005 with Kalariga Primary School by educating over 67 pupils on the need for education. Pupils were also provided with free educational learning materials such as exercise and reading books, pencils, erasers and educative games.
The Kalariga primary school had less learning supporting materials. The impact was as great as more parents saw the need to send their wards to school while children demanded they should be taken to school. This little support brought little smiles on the faces of pupils and teachers as they felt they were loved and cared for. Having been inspired by the impact of the little support to these children, LINK Ghana pursued an integrated household /community development interventions to eradicate poverty through the Household Development(HDA) Approach as poverty and ignorance was seen as the driven force for the low education among children, malnutrition, natural and man-made disasters, conflict and poor health.
LINK Ghana therefore prioritized the root cause of poverty solutions with strategic focus on mind set changing capacity, Savings Group development, peace promotion and conflict prevention initiative (PP&CI), sustainable agricultural practices, Farmer Based Organizations development, environmental management practices at the community and household level. Local value chain in the crop sector has been vigorously pursued such millet, maize, beans, bambaran beans, soybeans and sorghum which have economic and environmental benefits to households and communities. In 2017 LINK Ghana was registered with the Registrar General of Ghana as a registered NGO with legal status to commence business in all the three Northern Regions of Ghana and parts of Brong – Ahafo Region of Ghana. Currently LINK Ghana has six (6) technical professional staff and is self-funded. LINK Ghana currently has three (3) key programmatic areas which are:
